Enthralling knit and crochet fun.

Share your passion for yarn and creation with people who truly understand. My Mystery Create-A-Longs (MCALs) are designed to unite all of the yarn addicts in a fun group activity! I don’t often get out of the house without my kids….so getting to a yarn shop to knit or crochet with a group of super fun people just doesn’t happen for me.

That’s one of the reasons why I started my Mystery Create-A-Longs….because I want to share my love of yarn with those who understand it! There’s nothing better than being surrounded by people who encourage you to create while always offering kind and uplifting support. By participating in a Mystery Create-A-Long, you’ll be surrounded by those awesome people….without ever having to leave your couch (Or get out of your pajamas! In fact, I usually send each new clue immediately after waking up while I’m still in my pjs with my coffee in hand. Shhh!)!

Simple Celtic Beauty

Jennika

There's something so raw and earthy about celtic designs. I see gorgeous twists and cables in a project, and I'm transported to another time. I can immediately feel a cool, salty breeze upon my cheek while my bare toes dig deep into rich green grass. When I really let my imagination go wild, there's always sheep involved.

I've wanted to incorporate the natural beauty and comfort that celtic designs have to offer into a Mystery Create-A-Long pattern for quite some time now. Somehow, I never seemed to find the perfect project to really suit both the pace and variety needed for a Mystery Create-A-Long design, with the calm and elegant beauty found in the celtic style.

The moment I dreamed up Jennika, I knew I'd found just the project. I think you'll agree that this design is not only gorgeous, but is fun to create and will make you feel like a master knitter or crocheter. I truly believe Jennika is a pattern that will make you feel proud, and that you'll come back to time and again. After all....celtic beauty is quite timeless.

My Promise To You?

My 2016 is all about creating community! If you choose to participate in one of my Mystery Create-A-Longs, you’ll find yourself part of one of the loveliest communities of people around. You’ll have access to quick help (from me, my assistant admins, and all the other community members) should you need it. Most of all, you’ll have fun!

I guarantee it.

New to My Mystery Create-A-Longs?

I say create-a-long because the mystery pattern will be written in both a knit and a crochet version. So you get to sign up for whichever one works best for you, and then work alongside an amazing community of crafters to create something awesome. If you’d like to check out the last couple of Create-A-Longs we did, you can see some of the final results in my blog posts about them.

Jennika MCAL Highlights

  • This event will be 6 weeks of community fun. I've spaced each clue out by a few days to give everyone plenty of chance to finish each segment before we move on. If you're a faster knitter or crocheter, you should have plenty of time to work on other projects between clues.
  • I’ve written this pattern in both a knit and a crochet version so everyone gets a chance to be involved!
  • This pattern includes sizes Toddler, Child, Teen/Small Adult, Medium Adult, Large Adult, XL Adult. If you're worried about it only going through size XL, don't be! I've stopped at that size, because I don't think anyone will want it larger than that in order to keep the most fit options open to them. It's still a great pattern for absolutely ALL shapes and sizes, and is going to be SO MUCH FUN to make as a group.
  • This is a pattern that you’ll be able to make time and time again for any woman or girl in your family….and believe me….you’ll be getting requests from all of them!
  • I’ve made in-depth video tutorials for each of the main skills involved in this pattern….which means if you've been itching to learn more about cables, this is the perfect chance! You’ll be gaining skills and confidence which will help improve your crafting skill set even after the event.
  • For any sections you do have questions on, you’ll have practically un-limited access to me and my assistant admins, and to a group of people working along with you, to answer questions. I do sleep and leave the house from time to time, but my number one priority during this event will be to provide fast and helpful support.
  • The more people who participate, the more goodies each person will get. During the last event, we had so many people participate that everyone got 4 free patterns from my shop in addition to the Create-A-Long pattern. Once again, I’ve created group incentives that range anywhere from everyone getting 3 to 6 free patterns (including a few from some amazing guest designers!). That means if we reach our goal number (we always have in the past!) you'll be paying just $1.85 per pattern....and it's a $54.50 value!
  • I’ll be giving away $25 Etsy Gift Cards at the end of the event! As usual, the more people who participate, the more prizes I’ll give away.

Why Is It Called An A-Long?

This event is called a create-a-long because it’s done on a schedule with a community of crafters….which is part of the reason it’s so much fun! Share photos of your work, admire everybody’s awesome projects, and always have someone available to help.

This create-a-long will be hosted in the Melody’s Makings’ Facebook Group and the Melody’s Makings’ Ravelry Group. We already have 10,000+ fun and friendly knitters/crocheters in the FB group and 3,000+ in the Ravelry group. We’d love to have you join us!

When Does the MCAL Start?

This Create-A-Long is available for sign up for just $14.99.

After October 31st, you will no longer be able to join the MCAL. Due to the incredible growth we've seen for each one of these events, limited space may be available in an effort to keep things hands on and personal. If these numbers are met, the sign ups may close sooner.

The first clue will be released on October 18th. If you sign up after 10/18, you'll be sent all of the clues released so far within 12 hours of signing up.

I’ve listed the general materials list below, but you’ll also receive a detailed list in PDF format, which will be sent directly to your Ravelry library, when you sign up. Clues will be sent directly to your e-mail (whichever e-mail is associated to your PayPal account), as well as your Ravelry library (if you've provided me with your username), in PDF format every 4-5 days. The clue schedule is as follows:

  • Clue #2: October 22, 2016

How Much Does It Cost?

This Mystery Create-A-Long is 6 full weeks of suspenseful fun and gives you the chance to connect with a seriously amazing group of fellow yarn lovers! If you purchase now, this event costs less than the price of a few cups of coffee – just $14.99! Clues will be sent directly to your e-mail inbox, as well as your Ravelry library (just be sure to sign into your Ravelry account before purchase) every 4-5 days, and you’ll receive the final copy of the pattern as one PDF after the create-a-long has ended.

Depending on the number of participants, you may also receive between 3 and 6 additional free patterns at the end of the MCAL. This makes each pattern just $2.14! When you break down the individual price of each one of these patterns, the value is up to $54.50. Check out the Group Incentives section below for more details!

Price will increase periodically until the start of the event.

What Materials Do I Need?

For the crochet version of this pattern:

Materials:

  • Yarn: Approximately 315-1500 yards of Worsted (4) or DK (3) weight yarn depending on your gauge (I'll include more exact yardage requirements for each size in the detailed materials list you'll receive upon purchase).

I recommend choosing a solid color in a non-textured yarn. Something with a nice drape is best.

I used Juniper Moon Farm's Cumulus yarn, and have included a 20-25% off discount to www.yarn.com in the Materials List if you’d like to purchase the same yarn I used.

Testers also used both Vanna's Choice and Red Heart Soft and their projects looked stunning!

  • Crochet Hook: Size 5.5 mm (I/9) OR whatever size is needed to obtain gauge

**Just as a note – I’m a tight crocheter….so it’s more than possible you may need to go down a hook size or two to match my gauge. I recommend making a gauge swatch with the suggested size of yarn before purchasing your supplies….just so you’ll be able to change yarn size if need be. If you crochet loosely, you may consider going down to a DK (3) weight yarn. Row gauge is more important than stitch gauge for this pattern.**

  • Yarn or Tapestry Needle

For the knit version of this pattern:

Materials:

  •  Yarn: Approximately 215-1000 yards of Worsted (4) weight yarn (I'll include more exact yardage requirements for each size in the detailed materials list you'll receive upon purchase).

I recommend choosing a solid color in a non-textured yarn. Something with a nice drape is best.

I used Juniper Moon Farm's Cumulus yarn, and have included a 20-25% off discount to www.yarn.com in the Materials List if you’d like to purchase the same yarn I used.

  • Knitting Needles: Size 5.5 mm (US9) Straight Needles OR whatever size is needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn or Tapestry Needle

How Do I Know What Yarn to Use?

You can pretty much choose any Worsted (4) weight or DK (3) weight yarn to use with this pattern. I recommend choosing a solid color (because it will show off the stitch pattern best) in something with a nice drape. This is a Fall/Winter design, so matching the color with items in your Fall/Winter wardrobe might prove useful.

I will be providing you with a 20-25% off coupon code for the same yarn I used (as long as you purchase enough) in the detailed Materials List. This pattern is perfect for any girl or woman in your life and would make an excellent Christmas gift if you’re un-sure if you might use it yourself.

If you’d like to check your gauge before purchasing, here’s what you need to know (row gauge is more important than stitch gauge in this case….though it’s always best if you can match both!):

Crochet gauge:

7 sts and 8 rows = 2 inches (5cm) in Single Crochet

Knit gauge:

9 sts and 13 rows = 2 inches (5cm) in Stockinette Stitch

What Skill Level is This Pattern?

This Mystery Create-A-Long is all about twists and cables, making it an intermediate level design. I’ve included detailed video tutorials for all the more difficult skills involved in the pattern, though, so an adventurous and patient beginner who knows all of the basic stitches could take this project on as well.

What's This About Group Incentive?

Because I want to ensure that this Mystery Create-A-Long is an even bigger hit than the last one, I’m offering a few awesome reasons to share with your crafty friends! Last time we ended with 2300 participants! Think we can beat that number this time!?

  • We already have over 1000 participants! That means.... I’ll send everyone who participates 1 free pattern written by myself with the help of a couple of my beloved testers, that matches the celtic style of this Create-A-Long pattern. I'll also send you 2 gorgeous free patterns written by guest designers Briana, of Briana K Designs, and Dusty, of Crochetmylove Designs, at the end of the event. Everyone who creates a Ravelry project page and shares final photos by December 8, 2016 will be entered to win one of 15 $25 Etsy Gift Cards.
  •  That's just $3.74 per pattern.
  • If we have over 2000 participants, I’ll send everyone who participates 2 free patterns, one written by me and one written with the help of a couple of my beloved testers, that match the celtic style of this Create-A-Long pattern. I'll also send you 2 gorgeous free patterns written by guest designers Briana, of Briana K Designs, and Dusty, of Crochetmylove Designs. To top it off, I'll send you two coupon codes for ANY pattern listed in my Ravelry shop FREE (no price limits!) at the end of the event. Everyone who creates a Ravelry project page and shares final photos by December 8, 2016 will be entered to win one of 25 $25 Etsy Gift Cards.
  •  That's just $2.14 per pattern.

**If you purchase both the knit and the crochet version, you'll receive a $1 discount off the sale price of each version, along with all of the incentive patterns listed above for each version, giving you a total of 14 patterns if we meet the 3000 participant goal.**
